            The short version: You can browse and plan routes without an account or GPS permission. Map and route providers receive the requests needed to display places and calculate directions. Saved places and preferences stay in your browser. Suggestions are sent to the guide for review. We use no advertising trackers.
        

1. Introduction

Welcome to Green Luzern. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our interactive sustainability map. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy.

2. Information We Collect

Location Data: If you grant permission, Green Luzern briefly accesses your device's geolocation (GPS) when you choose "Use your location", "Your location", or start live navigation. Selected route endpoints are sent to Valhalla / FOSSGIS to calculate directions; rerouting sends the current position during navigation. We do not store, log, harvest, or track your physical location on any servers we own or operate.

Local Storage: We use your browser's localStorage to save your preferences (such as your preferred map layer style). This data never leaves your device and is not used for tracking or profiling.

No Account Required: Green Luzern does not require you to register, log in, or provide any personal information such as your name or email address.

3. Third-Party Services

To provide high-quality map rendering and routing, Green Luzern relies on the following third-party open-source services. These services operate under their own independent privacy policies and may log anonymous web traffic data (such as IP addresses) when serving content to your browser:

OpenFreeMap — Vector map tiles, labels, and map styling
OpenStreetMap Foundation — Map tiles and geographic data
Valhalla / FOSSGIS — Car, bicycle, and pedestrian routing. Route requests send the selected start and destination coordinates to this service; rerouting sends the current position when navigation is active.
Nominatim — Address searches and reverse lookup of selected map coordinates
Esri — Satellite imagery, when selected
Leaflet.js — Open-source mapping library (runs fully in your browser)

4. Cookies & Analytics

Green Luzern does not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking pixels, or third-party analytics platforms (such as Google Analytics). We do not sell or share any data with advertisers or data brokers.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties for commercial purposes. Your browser sends requests to map, address-search and routing providers. If you submit a suggested place, its details and any optional name you enter are sent to our submission service for review.

6. Your Rights

You can reset visit progress in Settings and remove saved places using their Save buttons. Clearing this site's browser storage removes all preferences, saved places and read lessons. For questions about a submitted suggestion, contact the Green Luzern team.

7. Location Permission

You choose whether to grant device location permission. Without it you can browse the guide and plan routes using named starting points and destinations. GPS tracking and live rerouting require location permission.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
